At the end of a full week dedicated to welcoming its students, CEGEP Champlain - St. Lawrence connected with more than 675 of its students, all separated in smaller groups to ensure adequate security measures.
First-year and returnee students were invited to information sessions, self-guided tours of the Cegep and to discuss with various student service professionals, such as sports, socio-cultural, psychosocial and adapted services.
With so many uncertainties related to course dispensing this fall, it was essential for the only English-speaking Cegep in the Quebec City area to reassure its students and allow them to experience at least one in-person activity within its walls.
"We are extremely pleased with the number of students that answered the call," said Edward Berryman, Director of Constituent College and Studies. "Although some science students will be present for laboratories, most will have few opportunities to interact in person with their peers, teachers and student associations. It was essential for us to welcome our students as warmly as possible and to identify the resources made available to them for this particular Fall semester."
In terms of resources available, Champlain - St. Lawrence cites the brand new "Survival Guide" as an example, a comprehensive guide intended for college students. Envisioned and written by several professionals from English-speaking Cegeps in the province, the guide serves as a self-assessment tool on readiness for college success. It contains a host of tips, including netiquette for online courses, best studying practices, how to stay motivated and much more.
