MOHAWK COLLEGE
Mandatory vaccination requirements for access to campuses

August 17, 2021

Message from President Ron McKerlie

I look forward to welcoming many of you to our Mohawk College campuses in the coming weeks.

As always, the health and safety of students and employees is our top priority and will continue to be the primary consideration in our decisions as classrooms, labs and workspaces become more active in September.

COVID-19 infections are on the rise again and the best protection against the most serious impacts of infection and outbreaks is through widespread vaccination. We are very fortunate in Canada to have access to effective vaccines.

In an effort to ensure a safe environment for those involved, we previously announced a mandatory vaccination policy for people working and living in the Mohawk Students Residence and for all varsity athletes and employees. Today, in consultation with Public Health authorities, we are expanding that requirement to include all Mohawk College facilities.

As of September 7, 2021, all employees, students, contractors and visitors attending Mohawk College facilities will be required to confirm that they have had at least one dose of a Health Canada or World Health Organization approved vaccine before entering a Mohawk facility. The second dose should be received by October 15, with proof of full vaccination required by no later than October 30, 2021. This requirement will remain in place throughout the 2021-22 academic year.

Previously communicated requirements related to social distancing and PPE (i.e., masks, face shields) remain in place for anyone attending a Mohawk facility.

We recognize this new requirement may pose a challenge for some of you. Vaccination exemptions may be granted to people who have either a medical accommodation or an objection based on disability or creed. More information about the application process for exemptions will be provided by August 23.

People with approved exemptions will be required to be tested regularly and demonstrate a negative COVID-19 result in order to attend their work or lessons on campus.

In an effort to support you through this process, we will be hosting vaccination clinics for people who still need to be vaccinated. You will find dates and times for those services posted on our website in the coming days.

We also recognize that many of our students are joining us from other countries, with different vaccinations available to them. For that reason, we are now recognizing all vaccines approved by Health Canada or by the World Health Organization.

Details on the process for submitting proof of vaccination will also be communicated no later than end of day, Monday August 23, 2021. It is important to communicate this requirement today in order to provide everyone with the opportunity to access the vaccine prior to September 7, 2021.

This decision has been made to maintain a healthy and safe environment for everyone to learn, teach and work in-person at the college as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.

We have had to deal with many changes over the past many months. Thank you for your flexibility as we continue to adapt during this challenging time.

You may have a number of questions. We have tried to anticipate some of them in the COVID-19 FAQ page and will be updating this page regularly.

As mentioned above, information on the process for collecting vaccine information, entry to campus and any other requirements will also be found through the COVID-19 Update webpage. Mohawk social media channels will also be updated regularly.
