JUSTICE INSTITUTE OF BRITISH COLUMBIA
Vaccine survey results show 89 per cent of JIBC community fully or partially vaccinated

October 21, 2021

To the JIBC Community,

On behalf of Dr. Michel Tarko, President and CEO of JIBC, I want to thank all students, staff and faculty who completed a vaccine survey in September for doing so.

Our return to campus has been going very well, thanks to solid protocols and the collective diligence of staff, faculty, and students. This survey was an important activity in helping us navigate the landscape created by COVID-19, including the fact that it will or in many ways already has, become part of our everyday lives.

Data provided through the survey will help us ensure an effective and proportionate response to managing the risks specific to our circumstances. I am pleased to share the results with you below.

Staff and Faculty

  • 95% of staff who completed a survey indicate they are either fully or partially vaccinated
  • 93% of faculty who responded indicated they are either fully or partially vaccinated
  • Almost 60% of staff and faculty participated in the survey

Students

  • 87% of students who completed a survey indicated they are either fully or partially vaccinated
  • 29% of students completed a survey

Overall

  • 89% of the JIBC community is fully or partially vaccinated
  • The overall response rate was 32% (59% staff/faculty and 29% students)
  • Based on the response rate (2,367 respondents), results are considered accurate to within +/- 1.7%

These results indicate a high level of vaccine coverage, which is positive news for our safety plans and consistent with other post-secondary institutes and provincial results (as of Oct. 6, 2021, 88.4% of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 81.9% have received their second dose).

JIBC is partnering with Fraser Health to host a COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic on-site at the New Westminster campus on Thursday, Oct. 14 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It's an opportunity for anyone wanting to ensure they have their second dose before the next stage of the BC Vaccine Card program kicks in on Oct. 24. First doses will also be available. More information to follow.

Vaccines remain the number one tool in protecting British Columbians' health, so I join Dr. Tarko in encouraging anyone who is not yet fully vaccinated to do so.

You will find current information on our COVID-19 Safety Protocols on jibc.ca.
