The Collège communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick plays an important role in communities and supports the province's economy. A study shows that the CCNB generates billions of dollars in increased GDP and supports over 41,000 jobs.
The CCNB hired the specialized firm Stiletto Consulting to conduct an economic study to measure its impact in the province. The analysis shows that it has a major effect on the lives of graduates and the communities they live in.
Here are some highlights from the study:
- In 2019-2020, CCNB's 27,000 alumni boosted the provincial GDP by $3.7 billion, and their activities and businesses supported 41,000 jobs.
- In 2019-2020, new graduates and CCNB operations generated $194 million in increased provincial GDP, $141 million in labor income, and $53 million in tax revenue.
- Within 20 years, 2019-2020 graduates will generate $1.7 billion in labour income, $1.2 billion in household expenditures and $408 million in tax revenues for the provincial government and municipalities.
Stiletto's study measures how beneficial an education at CCNB is for students. Over the course of a 40-year career, they earn an average of $420,000 more than someone who did not pursue post-secondary education after graduating from high school.
In addition, for every dollar invested by the Government of New Brunswick in CCNB, the return on investment over 20 years is $3.17. This includes revenues from the 2019-2020 operations of the NBCC and only revenues generated by CCNB graduates that exceed those expected by high school graduates in the labor market.
The study notes that applied research and innovation transfer funding at CCNB has increased by 56% from the 2015-2016 college year to 2019-2020.
In addition, international enrollment has nearly tripled from 2017-2018 to 2019-2020. Living expenses for international students exceed $14 million per year.
The data from the Stiletto study allows CCNB and its partners to better understand the extent of its economic impact. The data describes the fair value of the CCNB and reiterates the importance of continued support from New Brunswick government, businesses and communities. It also measures the positive financial impact of studying at the CCNB, despite the short-term sacrifice it represents.
Stiletto's study, conducted in the spring of 2021, covers the 2019-2020 fiscal and academic year.
