Fleming College is helping to address gaps in housing for seniors and post-secondary students through its participation in Canada HomeShare Peterborough.
Canada HomeShare Peterborough is part of a 10-city housing pilot program that supports aging in place for older adults while providing safe and affordable housing to Fleming and Trent University students. Those students provide up to seven hours of support by way of companionship, helping with household chores or running errands for local, older adults in their home in exchange for reduced rent of around $400 to $600 a month. It is being launched through a partnership between the Trent Centre for Aging & Society and Canada HomeShare.
Two representatives from Fleming College will join the Canada HomeShare Peterborough Advisory Committee. The Committee also includes representatives from Trent Off-Campus Housing, Community Care Peterborough, the City of Peterborough, and Age-Friendly Peterborough.
Canada HomeShare Peterborough will launch in the fall of 2022.
