Vanier College is pleased to announce that Liberal Arts graduate, Isabella Del Grosso, is the 2022 Vanier College Valedictorian. Isabella will address her fellow graduates as part of the 2022 Vanier College graduation ceremony that will take place on Monday, June 27, 2022 at Place Des Arts. This will be the first time since 2019 that Vanier has a graduation ceremony in person. Over 400 students are expected to attend the ceremony this year.
While studying at Vanier, Isabella was extremely active in many activities. She was a contributor then a member of the executive for the VCSA Insider, the Vanier student newspaper. Eventually she became the Assistant Editor-in-Chief who managed social media for the paper, helped edit articles and wrote her own articles. "I loved this role. It allowed me to make friends and connect with other clubs both inside and outside of Vanier. I learned about our student community, met amazing people, and gave various clubs a platform through my articles and social media. I'm a firm believer in standing up for what's right and I used the newspaper to spread awareness on issues such as racism, LGBTQ+ rights, Indigenous rights and feminism."
She was also a peer English tutor and spent an hour and a half in the Writing Centre dealing with drop-ins every week, as well as holding scheduled meetings with students. "I felt I helped ease the nerves of the tutees when they saw I was a student who struggles just like them." Isabella was not new to tutoring since she already had previous experience volunteering for four years at a summer literacy camp helping children who struggle to read and write or who are on the autism spectrum.
Isabella has been thrilled with her years at Vanier. She loved her program which she says is exactly what she wanted to study in Cegep. And she loved Vanier. "Vanier is homey. It's a comfortable, welcoming and warm community and with all its green space, it feels healthy. I love Vanier during UB and all the wonderful choice of activities and events that my friends and I could attend. When I think of Vanier, I have an image of music, laughter and students smiling and having fun outside on the lawn in the sun."
