ASSOCIATION POUR LA RECHERCHE AU COLLÉGIAL
What types of review are required of an REB?

September 20, 2022

The Association pour la recherche au collégial (ARC) will be holding an online training session on September 27, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (Montreal time), as a forum for discussing the role of Research Ethics Boards (REBs) in the scholarly and ethics review of research projects. CEGEPs, colleges, and government schools are encouraged to promote the event to all relevant stakeholders.

A request from the college research community has prompted ARC to once again organize a training session on the role of REBs in the scientific and ethical review of research projects. The session will focus on dialogue and experience-sharing, and will offer an occasion to answer several questions: What types of review should an REB conduct, taking into consideration its mandate and the most recent version of the Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans? In what order is it best to conduct the different types of review? Is this order the same whether the project is conducted in a single institution or across multiple institutions?

The September 27 session will interest all stakeholders REB members, support resources from educational institutions, and researchers who need to understand the critical path of a research project and the REB's specific mandate. This activity is both the starting point for ARC's research ethics events for this year and the foundation for all subsequent events. The next session will focus on research activities that require REB review.

This information session will be offered online to ensure access to the widest possible audience. Discussions with the contact person can be held in both English and French. Note that in order to encourage an open discussion and full participation, the session will not be available for offline viewing after it has ended.
