NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR TEACHERS' ASSOCIATION
NLTA Wishes Minister Haggie Well; Looking Forward to Working with Minister Osborne

February 1, 2023

The Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers' Association is sending best wishes to Education Minister John Haggie as he steps away from his portfolio to deal with a health concern.

"Our Association sends wishes for a speedy and full recovery to Minister Haggie as he takes the time needed to focus on his health," said Trent Langdon, President of the Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers' Association. "In the interim, we are looking forward to once again working with Minister Tom Osborne while he serves as alternate Education Minister as there are urgent matters that need to be addressed in our K-12 public education system. Minister Haggie identified recruitment and retention as a priority when he assumed the education portfolio. We have watched, with interest, the initiatives Minister Osborne has introduced since taking on leadership of the Department of Health, and we welcome discussion and action on those challenges in the public education system in the near future."

The NLTA continues to call for the Provincial Government to implement a comprehensive approach to address the recruitment, retention and resourcing issues that are impacting schools throughout the province.
