Clearview Trustees are pleased to announce that Barb Gano is the recipient of the Clearview Star Award for 2023. Gano is an Executive Assistant at the Clearview Central Office. She is also a trustee on the Stettler Library Board.
The Clearview Star Award recognizes staff and community members who have made significant contributions to Clearview's school communities through volunteerism, as a community partner, or supported our schools at the school level.
Wendy Coppock, Director of Inclusive Learning, Clearview Public Schools, nominated Gano for the award and says, "Barb possesses an amazing community spirit. She believes that relationships are key to the success of community groups and initiatives, and strives to create a positive environment that ensures engagement and connection. Barb has a passion for nutrition and wellness and continues to donate her time to many community agencies."
In the letter that accompanied Coppock's nomination of Gano, Coppock writes that she admires Gano for the work she has done and continues to do. "I believe that her passion for nutrition and wellness has moved Clearview forward in these areas. We are where we are because of her commitment to this important area of self-development." Coppock acknowledges the hours Gano has spent, outside of her work day, on division wellness initiatives and says, "We are so lucky to have Barb on our team and I am so happy she is being recognized for her caring, compassionate, and community driven leadership!"
"Barb has been a supporter and lead on many teams such as Early Childhood Coalitions and the Crisis Response Team. Barb has never been someone who simply takes up a seat on a board. She actively engages in her committee work and with the people alongside her," states Coppock. "This active volunteerism can be seen in her work at our schools where she speaks about nutrition, makes power balls with students and staff, and sets up tower gardens. Barb's knowledge, skills, and experience make her an excellent choice for the Clearview Star Award."
Gano says she is humbled and honoured to receive the Clearview Star Award. "I started volunteering at Botha School in 1995 when we first moved to the area. I was offered the secretary position in 1996 and 27 years later I am still working for Clearview!" states Gano.
Reflecting on her many years with the division, Gano says "I have held many different roles during my years at Clearview, such as educational assistant, librarian and executive assistant. In my current position I focus on wellness work, which is my passion. I love the people that I work with and I thoroughly enjoy assisting our schools with their School Nutrition Programs and supporting our Staff Wellness Day."
Gano says she plans to continue her wellness and community work. "I enjoy volunteering for different events and committees in our community and have been a trustee on the Stettler Library Board for the past 12 years, co-hosted the 2022 Stettler Wellness Summit for Stettler and I am part of the Stettler Healthy Living Group where we inspire healthy living in our community."
Gano will be recognized at Clearview's annual recognition evening on May 31st, 2023.
