The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) and Nanaimo Ladysmith Public Schools (NLPS) have renewed the Cedar Skate Park Community Park agreement for a ten-year period from 2023 to 2033. The agreement gives the RDN permission to continue operating and maintaining the skate park located on NLPS-owned land for a fee of $1 for the duration of the agreement period. Under the agreement, the RDN will also maintain existing park amenities including parking, washroom facilities, lighting, benches, signs, bicycle racks, picnic tables, plantings and landscaping, irrigation works and the drinking fountain.
Opened in 2014, the skate park is in the south-eastern corner of the Cedar Community Secondary School property. The 930-square-metre skate park includes a variety of obstacles and features for both beginner and experienced riders.
