SOOKE SCHOOL DISTRICT
Sooke School District Announces New Associate Superintendent

October 27, 2023

The Sooke School District is pleased to announce that D'Arcy Deacon has accepted the position of Associate Superintendent with the District to commence January 1, 2024.

D'Arcy will join the Sooke School District from Gulf Islands School District (School District 64) where he currently serves as Deputy Superintendent. Prior to that, he held roles as Associate Superintendent and Director of Instruction with the Gulf Islands School District. D'Arcy has over 17 years of education experience in the K-12 sector, a Masters in Curriculum and is currently pursing his doctorate degree in educational leadership through the University of Western Ontario.

"I look forward to building new relationships and working with the fabulous teams of educators and staff throughout the Sooke School District," said Deacon. "As a lifelong learner, I strive to continuously grow my practice and seek to model compassionate leadership as we navigate the increasing complexity of the public education sector."

D'Arcy has an extensive teaching and administrative background and has demonstrated successful leadership through collaborative and disciplined exploration. D'Arcy has a reputation of serving teachers, support staff, administrators, students, and families in a clear and compassionate manner. "We are excited to have D'Arcy join our executive team. As an administrator from a smaller district, he has built up an incredibly diverse skillset that includes everything we were looking for in a candidate and more," said Deputy Superintendent Paul Block. "One of the things that struck me about his achievements was successfully improving graduation rate parity between Indigenous and non- Indigenous students in the Gulf Island School District. That kind of drive and commitment to student success speaks for itself and there is no doubt that he will lead with the same passion for students and staff in the Sooke School District."

D'Arcy will step into the role of Associate Superintendent on January 1, 2024 when Paul Block becomes Superintendent and Monica Braniff shifts into the Deputy Superintendent role. D'Arcy was born and raised on Vancouver Island and he and his family look forward to coming home.
