Edmonton Catholic Schools was recognized for a piece of work flowing from the Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Anti-racism (EDIAR) Strategic Plan, winning the community engagement award at the Alberta School Boards Association's annual awards ceremony on November 19, 2023.
This award recognizes "a school board's commitment to fostering meaningful connections with their communities."
As part of the recommendations that came forward from our collaborative development of the Edmonton Catholic Schools Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Anti-racism (EDIAR) Strategic Plan with Norquest's Colbourne Institute for Inclusive Leadership, the Division was tasked with creating an EDIAR Administrative Procedure that addresses reporting and responding to discrimination and racism.
Our EDIAR Team, with the support of Indigenous Learning Services and One World One Centre undertook a three-phase engagement and policy development process that engaged the voices of multiple equity-seeking groups within our Division as well as the voices of our leadership, employee groups, School Councils, and Student Voice Team in order to determine which elements would be most effective and most desirable in the resulting Administrative Procedure (AP) and accompanying Guidebook.
