RCDSB Seeks New School Board Trustee

The Renfrew County District School Board (RCDSB) is currently accepting applications from community members to fill a Board of Trustee vacancy for the current term. Applications will be accepted until January 29th, 2024, and the successful applicant is expected to be sworn in at the February 27th, 2024 Board meeting. 

Due to the huge loss of beloved Trustee Bryon Morris this past November, the RCDSB Board is seeking to fill a vacant position immediately. Trustee Morris was elected to the Board of Trustees, serving the students, parents/guardians, and school communities in the Petawawa area over many decades. 

Every school board in Ontario is governed by a Board of Trustees whose main focus is student achievement, equity, and well-being of all students. Trustees serve as a link between the community and local schools to ensure that system-wide decision-making continues to meet the diverse needs of key stakeholders. A strong belief in the importance of public education is critical, and experience in governance is an asset.

Trustee applications (resume and cover letter) can be sent to the attention of Executive Officer of Public Affairs and Communication, Meredith Caplan Jamieson, subject: Trustee Vacancy, arriving on or before January 29th, 2024. Applicants should include:

• What interests you in becoming a school board Trustee;
• The skills and experiences that make you a suitable candidate for this role;
• Indicate your availability to commit to the time demands of the position.

The RCDSB consists of eight publicly elected trustees representing all municipalities in Renfrew County, one appointed Indigenous Trustee, and two Student Trustees. The motto Inspire Empower Achieve is the thread that connects all the work of the Board.
