- Develop a coordinating committee of school division and community group organizations to develop a strategic decolonization and anti-racism knowledge and capacity development training plan;
- Develop and implement comprehensive learning paths
- Develop communities of practice to further imbed anti-racist and anti-oppressive work in public education.
Two Coordinators have been seconded from their respective divisions, LRSD and Seven Oaks School Division (SOSD) to lead this work with support from divisional leaders in each of the participating divisions.
Izzeddin Hawamda (SOSD) and Shelly Hopper (LRSD) will lead the work in schools across the three divisions over the next 3 years.
Izzeddin Hawamda was born and raised in a rural village just outside of the city of Nablus in the West Bank, Palestine. He has lived in Canada for over 15 years and is a high school teacher in Winnipeg. He is currently working toward a PhD in Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Manitoba.
Shelly Hopper is of mixed heritage with Red River Metis and settler roots. She is an educational leader who has dedicated her career to supporting equitable educational experiences. Shelly is currently completing her EdD through Western University with a focus on shared leadership using a Two Eyed Seeing approach, to enhance school culture and student achievement.
