Carihi Teacher Honoured with Prestigious Award

The Gordon Gore Prize, named in memory of Dr. Gordon Gore, a renowned science educator from Kamloops, is an annual honor presented to an exceptional science teacher in British Columbia.

While Mr. Deagle was named the recipient in June 2023, the official presentation of his award took place this March, marking a special occasion for both Mr. Deagle and the Carihi school community.

Mr. Deagle is widely known for his innovative teaching methods and his dedication to going beyond traditional classroom instruction. Renowned for his hands-on approach to learning, Mr. Deagle incorporates humor, creativity, and real-life applications of physics into his lessons. From exploring momentum at the curling rink to demonstrating friction through live skid stops, Mr. Deagle's dynamic teaching style captivates his students.

In his own words, Mr. Deagle shared his gratitude that his efforts to create a classroom that inspires, motivates and challenges students has been recognized, "I strive to foster a sense of community in my science classes that focus on acceptance, resiliency, and perseverance. Bringing in humour, Waffle Wednesdays', Nerd Shirt Tuesdays' and having an open door outside of class hours helps me to connect with my students on a more personal level and builds a relationship of mutual respect and trust. I hope to continue to inspire students to find joy in learning, to believe in themselves, and to open their minds to the endless possibilities within the field of science."
