Millarville Community School welcomes Scott Carey as Principal for 2024-2025

We are pleased to announce Mr. Scott Carey as Principal at Millarville Community School (MCS), effective August 23, 2024. Mr. Carey brings significant school leadership experience in the role of Principal to the school community.  Currently Scott is serving as Principal at Big Rock School in Okotoks (2016 - 2024) and previously was Principal at Oilfields Jr/Sr High School in Diamond Valley (2009-2016).

Scott demonstrates strong commitment to life and career-long learning, is a strong advocate for student success, and challenges those around him to constantly develop their capacity to lead, teach, and support students for the future. Mr. Carey recognizes that a focus on literacy, numeracy, and learning that transfers are key foundations and competencies students will need for future success.

Scott holds a Bachelor of Bachelor of Education from Canadian Union College (1997), and a Master of Educational Leadership from University of Lethbridge (2010). In 2019 Scott obtained his Alberta Education Leadership Quality Standard (LQS) certificate.

Scott brings a passion for science and technology instruction to the veteran instructional team at Millarville Community School. With a deep pedagogical understanding of inquiry-based learning Mr. Carey looks forward to supporting the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program at MCS. 

He shares, "I am very excited for the opportunity to join the Millarville team this fall! Millarville Community School has a rich history of learning. As a leader, I believe that developing the whole child goes hand in hand with developing the whole teacher, and I am humbled at the opportunity to support this development at MCS. Finally, I am looking forward for the opportunity to engage with the school community, as well as the larger Millarville community, listen and learn, so that I can continue to lead and support the rich tradition of excellence at Millarville Community School."

Superintendent, Dr. Chris Fuzessy shares "We are happy to announce the appointment of Mr. Scott Carey as Principal at Millarville Community School. Mr. Carey's school leadership work spans the K to 12 experience and focuses on empowering teachers as designers of high-quality instruction for the students in their care.
