Wolf Creek Public Schools (WCPS) is excited to announce the appointment of Michael York as the new Assistant Principal of Ponoka Secondary Campus (PSC), starting in the 2024/2025 school year.
Michael York comes to this role with a robust background in education and leadership, having most recently served as Vice Principal at Buck Mountain Central School, and briefly as Acting Principal. Prior to his administrative roles, York was deeply involved in teaching Social Studies and English for grades 7-12 and has significantly contributed to literacy intervention and learning support.
"Michael's diverse experience in educational roles and his commitment to community involvement make him an invaluable addition to Ponoka Secondary Campus," said Sonja Dykslag, Assistant Superintendent of People Services. "His innovative strategies for rural teacher retention and his hands-on approach in extra-curricular activities align well with our goals to enhance educational experiences at PSC."
York earned both his Bachelor and Master's of Education from the University of Alberta, with his graduate research focusing on rural teacher retention strategies in Alberta. His dedication to education is complemented by his active participation in the Ponoka Kinsmen Club and his experience coaching basketball and volleyball.
"I am thrilled to join the team at Ponoka Secondary Campus and am looking forward to contributing to this vibrant school community," said York. "I am passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of our students and am eager to bring my experience and enthusiasm to PSC."
York's appointment comes as part of WCPS's commitment to bringing dedicated and innovative leaders to its schools. His leadership is expected to drive forward the initiatives aimed at providing high-quality education and supportive learning environments at Ponoka Secondary Campus.
