Delta students excelled in multiple sports this year. Last night, Board of Education trustees and district staff celebrated students' achievements ahead of the Public Board Meeting.
In attendance were three teams from South Delta Secondary School (SDSS):
- The Grade 8 Girls Volleyball team who won the South Fraser Championship. Coached by Jodi Latremouille and Lawrence Eade, the team had a win/loss record of 46-2. They won four tournaments and placed 5th at Provincials. They warmed up before each game with a coordinated dance routine!
- The Senior Girls Volleyball team were also present last night. Coached by Dan Burgess, Gatlin Saip and Taka Katsube, the team, which is an exceptional group of multi-sport athletes, were South Fraser Championship winners.
- The Junior Girls Volleyball team, coached by Mike and Karen Kilpatrick, were the Delta Champions, South Fraser Champions and Junior Champions.
Unable to attend the celebration but still recognized for their achievements were:
- The Seaquam Senior Girls Basketball Team, coached by Lucky Toor, Jim Sidhu and Taylor Kelly, who won the 4A Provincial Championships.
- The North Delta Secondary School Senior Boys Basketball. Coached by Jas Hothi, Bill Edwards and Jaskaran Dhanda, the team won the South Fraser AAA Boys Basketball Championship.
- The Delta Secondary Senior Boys Volleyball team and Junior Boys Volleyball team who won the South Fraser Athletic Association regional tournament. The Senior Boys also finished third at Provincials.
