All Saints High School Educator Ann Marie Vanneste Wins Prestigious International Fellowship

June 4, 2024

Ann Marie Vanneste, an esteemed Social Sciences teacher at All Saints High School in Kanata, has received the prestigious Fellowship from the Lowell Milken Center (LMC) for Unsung Heroes. This non-profit organization in Fort Scott, Kansas, acknowledges educators who demonstrate excellence in teaching respect and understanding through project-based learning. Ann Marie will join other distinguished educators in Fort Scott on June 23rd for a week of collaboration and professional development. For this honour, the LMC chooses only one international educator and 11 U.S. educators yearly. The previous year, the international educator was from Ukraine, and the year before, from Germany. This year, it's a great honour for the OCSB and Kanata to be represented!

Honour Well Deserved

Ann Marie Vanneste is a remarkable educator within the OCSB community. Her dedication to her students and innovative teaching methods have earned her prestigious accolades, such as the 2023 Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellence and the 2023 Director of Education Award. Additionally, The Emmett Till Legacy Foundation has recognized her commitment to creating an inclusive and equitable learning environment with the 2024 Women of Courage Award.

Teaching Philosophy

Ann Marie's teaching philosophy focuses on building meaningful relationships and helping students identify and celebrate their unique cultural strengths. She draws from her background as a Canadian hurdler and scholarship athlete at Louisiana State University to inspire students to discover and harness their academic and personal strengths.

Life-Long Learning

During her time in Fort Scott, Ann Marie will gain valuable insights and resources to help her students develop a passion for learning through projects that initiate positive change. The Fellowship will enable her to further her work in uncovering and sharing the stories of Unsung Heroes, inspiring her students to make a difference in their communities.

Job Well Done!

This recognition brings great pride to the OCSB community, highlighting the exceptional work being done within our schools. Ann Marie Vanneste's achievements are a testament to the dedication and passion that OCSB educators bring to their roles every day.
