A student from Surrey's Academy of Innovative Learning (SAIL) is back home following a bronze medal win at the 2024 Canada-Wide Science Fair (CWSF) in Ottawa last week.
Grade 10 student Visisht Kadali was awarded a bronze Excellence Award at the CWSF for his development of an app called WoundSense, which uses artificial intelligence to diagnose wounds and provide treatment advice to users.
Held at Carleton University, the CWSF is the largest annual youth science fair in Canada. With 400 finalists presenting 330 projects, the event drew more than 7,000 visitors this year.
Kadali was also joined in Ottawa by fellow Grade 10 student Sreya Kurup from Frank Hurt Secondary. The pair earned a spot at nationals following gold medal wins at the South Fraser Regional Science Fair earlier this spring.
While she didn't medal at the CWSF, Kurup impressed with her project exploring the impact of natural antibiotics on bacteria, particularly the effectiveness of vitamin C and ginger on bacterial growth.
