NIAGARA CATHOLIC DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD
Two Blessed Trinity Students Receive Schulich Scholarships

June 28, 2024

The Niagara Catholic District School Board is extremely pleased to announce that two graduating students from Blessed Trinity Catholic Secondary School are recipients of scholarships through the Schulich Foundation.

Madalyn Bujas and Elisa Gabriele

Madalyn Bujas is a recipient of a $7,500 Schulich Scholarship. Madalyn will attend Nipissing University in September to study a concurrent Bachelor of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Education degree.

"Thank you to Nipissing University for selecting me for the Schulich Scholarship award," said Madalyn. "I will be forever grateful to have been selected for this award. I could not have done this without the help of my parents, mentors, and teachers, especially Ms. Mariani, Heather Habgood, and Mr. Antolin."

Elisa Gabriele is one of 100 Canadian students in the Class of 2024 who are recipients of the Schulich Leader Scholarship. Half are valued at $120,000 for engineering scholarships and half are valued at $100,000 for science and math scholarships to students attending one of 20 partner universities. Elisa has accepted a place in the University of Waterloo's Architectural Engineering program (Co-op).

"I am so excited to extend my education as a 2024 Schulich Leader at the University of Waterloo," said Elisa. "I am eternally grateful for my teachers and parents, who encourage me to strive for academic excellence. I cannot wait to see what the next few years bring me!"

They join Isaac Shaw (BT Class of 2023), who received a $40,000 Schulich Builder's Scholarship last year, to make a trio of Schulich recipients in the past year.

"I am extremely proud of both Madalyn and Elisa for their tremendous accomplishments as recipients of Schulich Scholarships," said Jim Whittard, Principal of Blessed Trinity Catholic Secondary School. "They are both outstanding students and scholars, who were fully committed to their education and life at Blessed Trinity. I am confident that they are both worthy of these prestigious honours and certain they will be successful in their chosen programs and careers. On behalf of the entire Thunder community, congratulations to both Madalyn and Elisa!"

Danny Di Lorenzo, Chair of the Niagara Catholic Board of Trustees, congratulated Madalyn and Elisa on behalf of the Board.

"While our role of trustees focuses on governance, we are all incredibly invested in student success," said Chair Di Lorenzo. "It is clear that as Schulich recipients, both Madalyn and Elisa possess a passion for learning and drive to succeed. On behalf of the Niagara Catholic Board of Trustees, congratulations to Madalyn and Elisa for being among the best students in Canada."

Director of Education Camillo Cipriano built upon Chair Di Lorenzo in congratulating Madalyn and Elisa.

"Congratulations to Madalyn and Elisa, Niagara Catholic's two most recent Schulich Scholarship recipients," said Director Cipriano. "It is no small feat to be awarded such significant scholarships. It is a testament to their own desire to strive for their own personal best, and to the hard work and commitment shown by their teachers and families throughout the years. As we conclude our graduation season this week, I offer my congratulations to Elisa and Madalyn on their scholarships, and to all graduating students. May God bless you on this exciting new journey."
