GRAND ERIE DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD
School Zone Safety Makes for a Grand Beginning

September 10, 2024

Brantford Police and Fire teamed up on Tuesday at Grand Erie schools to ensure safety.

The streets of Brantford were alive with back-to-school buzz Tuesday morning (Sept 3) as families entered into another year of learning, well-being and belonging. With the presence of the Brantford Police Service and Fire Department at several schools in the region, community members are reminded of the importance of school traffic safety.

Fire Safety Educator Teagan Knowles says, "The first day of school can be hectic for everyone. Our goal is to remind drivers to slow down, listen and watch for children."

"We're fortunate to have Brantford Fire and the Brantford Police Service supporting our students' safe arrival to and from school. Their presence today reminds us of the partnership between school and community that we appreciate in Grand Erie and Russell Reid," says Principal Mark Fraser.

In its sixth year, Brantford Police and Fire teamed up to ensure that the first day, and every day, of school, is safe. Four schools are selected to receive on-site representation from police officers and first responders, this year supporting Cedarland Public School, King George School, Russell Reid Public School and Walter Gretzky Elementary School.

"Community safety is a shared responsibility," states Robin Matthews-Osmond, Corporate Communications Manager at Brantford Police Service. "We urge motorists and pedestrians to commute safely, free from distractions, and to use extra caution when travelling through residential areas, school zones and along bus routes."

"Talk about a grand beginning."
