The Campbell River Board of Education and School District, Campbell River Principals' and Vice-Principals' Association, Campbell River District Teachers' Association and CUPE Local 723 collectively express our commitment to inclusion and sexual orientation and gender identity rights within our schools and offices. We are affirming our support of 2SLGBTQIA+ students, staff, families, and community members.
We firmly believe that embracing and respecting diversity and ensuring a non-sexist environment is fundamental to creating safe, welcoming, and inclusive educational spaces. Our commitment to this principle extends to all students, staff, and community members, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
Acceptance can only be achieved through increased awareness and education. Sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) inclusive resources are essential tools to ensure that all students and their families are represented in our educational materials and to protect students and staff from discrimination based on gender identity or expression and sexual orientation, in compliance with the BC Human Rights Code.
By integrating SOGI materials as part of the resources in our schools, we aim to equip our students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become socially responsible citizens who challenge discrimination and promote equity.
Therefore, we use SOGI 123 resources to affirm diversity and inclusive classrooms.
We denounce misinformation, threats, hate and violence against 2SLGBTQIA+ communities and we continue to support and work to protect the human rights of 2SLGBTQIA+ people. Discrimination in any form has no place within our schools, offices, or community.
We are committed to transparency and working in partnership with parents and caregivers. We encourage them to reach out with any questions and to know that the best source of information about what is happening within their child's classroom or school are the teacher or principal.
By cultivating an environment that values and respects the rights of all we can create a more inclusive society for present and future generations.
Sincerely,
