KENORA CATHOLIC DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD
Growing Investing and Engaging: KCDSB Shares its Multi-Year Strategic Plan

October 15, 2024

The Kenora Catholic District School Board (KCDSB) is proud to reaffirm its commitment to students, families, and the community through its Multi-Year Strategic Plan (MYSP). Built on the pillars of Growing, Investing, and Engaging, the MYSP was originally developed through extensive consultation in 2019, with over 50% of feedback coming directly from students. To better align with the four-year trustee election cycle and refocus after pandemic-related disruptions, the plan has been extended to 2027.

At the September 17 Board Meeting, Director of Education Nicole Kurtz shared an overview of the MYSP's extension and reiterated KCDSB's focus on fostering collaboration and partnership within the school communities. Kurtz emphasized the importance of re-engaging students and families after the pandemic and bringing the strategic plan back to the forefront of the board's initiatives.

Growing: Nurturing Student Potential
The theme of Growing reflects the KCDSB's commitment to developing each student's full potential. Rooted in the verse from Luke 13:19, "It grew and became a tree," the plan emphasizes fostering innovation and creativity in education. Through innovative programs, students are encouraged to discover their passions, pursue success, and grow their talents. The board is also committed to improving mental health, focusing on the well-being of minds, bodies, and spirits.

A new initiative introduced this year includes a system-wide monthly focus on key aspects of Catholic education, integrating teachings such as Catholic Graduate Expectations, Grandfather Teachings, and family-centric connections. These monthly focuses will inspire activities that align with the Growing pillar, promoting holistic growth for both students and staff.

Investing: Building a Strong Foundation for the Future
Guided by Luke 6:48, "Build a house, dig deeply, and lay the foundation on rock," the pillar of Investing focuses on building a sustainable future through ongoing learning and leadership development. KCDSB believes in nurturing a culture of trust, where students, educators, and families grow together. This pillar emphasizes servant leadership, environmental stewardship, and fostering strong relationships within the school community.

One key component of this pillar is ensuring every student is met where they are in their learning journey. The board recognizes the value of investing in positive relationships and community connections, which support each student's growth and success.

Engaging: Fostering Partnerships and Collaboration
The final pillar, Engaging, calls the KCDSB to actively involve students, families, and communities in shaping school culture and curriculum. Based on 1 Thessalonians 5:11, "Therefore, encourage one another and build up each other," this pillar highlights the importance of collaboration beyond the classroom. Through the Family-Centric Approach, KCDSB aims to create partnerships with families, making them an integral part of the school experience.

At KCDSB, students and families are at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to engaging with families to build a strong sense of belonging and community. Moving forward, we will continue to invite families to connect with us, ensuring their involvement in our students' educational journeys.

Looking Ahead
As KCDSB moves forward, these pillars will guide the development of programs and initiatives that serve students, families, and the broader community. With a dedicated lead in each school to support the family-centric philosophy, KCDSB strives to create thriving school communities where partnerships with families are nurtured, and student success is a shared priority.

We invite all members of the KCDSB community to explore our Multi-Year Strategic Plan and join us in fostering a brighter future for all.
