This year's Distinguished Catholic Alumni Award recipient, Mayor of Ottawa Mark Sutcliffe, is a proud graduate of St. Pius X High School. Mark's journey as a dedicated leader and community builder began within the walls of St. Pius X, where he not only formed friendships that have lasted a lifetime but also discovered the importance of community service. It was his time at St. Pius that sparked his passion for volunteering, laying the groundwork for a career and life dedicated to uplifting others.
The Distinguished Catholic Alumni Award honours an alumnus who has achieved notable distinction in their field while embodying the positive Catholic values at the heart of the Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectations. Former St. Pius X Principal Carrie Bowie made the nomination, which was presented to Mayor Sutcliffe during Christian Community Day on October 11, 2024.
In true Mark Sutcliffe fashion, he chose to direct the accompanying $5,000 donation to his beloved alma mater, St. Pius X High School, as a way to give back to the place that played such a pivotal role in shaping his path.
