In a special meeting on October 15, 2024, eight candidates presented their qualifications for the position. Following presentations and interviews, trustees voted by secret ballot to select the new trustee.
Julia Fortey will be sworn in at the Board meeting scheduled for Tuesday, October 29, 2024. Fortey replaces former trustee Alysha Aziz who resigned from the Board in July 2024.
"I am eager to contribute to the Ottawa Carleton District School Board's (OCDSB) mission of fostering a learning community where every student can excel and develop into a well-rounded, respectful, and creative member of society," Fortey said.
The OCDSB has 12 school trustees who are elected to serve a four-year term and two student trustees who serve a one-year term. Each Trustee represents one of the OCDSB's 12 electoral zones. Each zone has a diverse community with unique needs, priorities and educational requirements.
Trustees meet regularly as the Board of Trustees. At the Board table, trustees represent the issues and concerns of their community and make decisions based on the interests of all students in the district.
