OCTOBER 24, 25 AND 26 IN CHARLOTTETOWN
34th Annual Conference of the National Federation of French-Language School Boards - School and community working hand in hand to foster student learning!

October 18, 2024

The Fédération nationale des conseils scolaires francophones (FNCSF) is pleased to announce that its 34th annual conference and general meeting will be held on October 24, 25 and 26 in Charlottetown, under the theme: « My school: connected to my community and open to the world! ».

This theme highlights the interdependence between the school and its community, whether local or extended and how this collaboration enriches student learning. It reflects two fundamental aspects of French-language minority schools in Canada: their roots in the community, embodied by the spirit of the civic community school, and their openness to the world, symbolized by a plural Francophonie.

French-language schools, which are growing rapidly thanks to immigration, are a lever for strengthening and consolidating Francophone identity. In a recent ruling, the Supreme Court of Canada confirmed the role that schools play in the inclusion of Francophone newcomers, recognizing immigration as a source of vitality for Francophone communities.

The FNCSF is pleased to welcome as keynote speaker the Honourable Michelle O'Bonsawin, the first Métis (Franco-Ontarian and Abenaki) to sit on the Supreme Court of Canada, and a graduate of the French-language minority school system (Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon).

As in previous years, the conference will offer school trustees and participants a unique opportunity for professional development and reflection on key topics. This year marks the return of workshops, with sessions on the following themes:

  • Artificial intelligence and learning;
  • The art of political representation;
  • Innovative approaches to a performing school system;
  • Enrolment potential: putting data to work in order to get ready to welcome an increasing number of students.

The FNCSF annual conference will also be an opportunity to highlight the success and perseverance of deserving students, and to recognize, through awards, the outstanding work of a school trustee and senior administrator.

The FNCSF thanks the Commission scolaire de langue française de l'Île-du-Prince-Édouard for hosting this event in its province.
