LETHBRIDGE SCHOOL DIVISION
World renowned handbell clinician visits Lethbridge School Division

October 18, 2024

On Wednesday, Oct. 16, three elementary school and one Division middle school had an opportunity to participate in a unique learning opportunity.

Emily Li, a globally-acclaimed handbell virtuoso hailing from Hong Kong, who now lives in Ontario, worked with young ringers on various techniques and rhythms as she prepared a mass ringing piece.

She put a focus on the middle school students at Gilbert Paterson Middle School in the morning and moved to Nicholas Sheran Elementary School in the afternoon, where she was joined by students from Ecole Agnes Davidson and Fleetwood-Bawden.

Li is an accomplished conductor, composer, soloist and educator with over 30 years of experience. Her fascination with handbells ignited in 1986, which sparked a deep passion.

She is the artistic director of the Hong Kong Handbell Academy, Hong Kong Youth Handbell Ensemble and Gloves Handbell, chairperson of the Handbell Association of Hong Kong and the Principal Guest Conductor of the Ministry of Bellz in Singapore.

Wednesday's opportunity was coordinated through the Alberta Guild of English Handbell Ringers (ALGEHR) as part of Handbell Discovery 2024 - Youth Appeal!

Handbell Discovery is the annual provincial handbell festival for ringers across Alberta and beyond.
