FÉDÉRATION NATIONALE DES CONSEILS SCOLAIRES FRANCOPHONES
Academic Perseverance Scholarships: 2024 Recipients!

October 28, 2024

The Regroupement national des directions générales de l'éducation (RNDGE) is proud to highlight the courage, perseverance and commitment of three graduates of French-language minority schools.

This year, three Academic Perseverance scholarships, in the amount of $1,000 each, were administered in collaboration with the Atlantic Francophone school boards.

The 2024 Recipients are:

Catherine Campbell: in grade 11, Catherine lost two people who were very close to her. Despite this affliction, she has shown great resilience and remarkable determination. Supported by her peers, her family, and committed school staff, she graduated with honors. Catherine is passionate about her friends and her horses, an interest that shines through every time she talks about them. During her schooling, she also excelled at volleyball, becoming a source of motivation for many people in the community. She plans to pursue post-secondary studies in psychology at the Université de Moncton, having discovered a true passion for helping others along the way.

Albert Mutambala: was a very involved student at his school. He was a member of the African Nova Scotian Student Committee, CSAP Stars, Around the Fire and participated in several other extracurricular and community activities. This young leader even offered a songwriting workshop to younger students during the youth forum. In recognition of his talents and commitment, Albert received the school's Leadership Award, the Excellence in Music Award, and was named Artist of the Year. He lives with his aunt in Nova Scotia while his parents and siblings are in Montreal. Despite the challenges he faced, he continued to do brilliantly in his courses and demonstrated leadership within the school.

Horeb Kouassi: arrived in Newfoundland in December 2019. He has overcome a series of challenges: adapting to a new education system, integrating into a new environment marked by the closure of schools due to Covid, and learning English in an anglo-dominant province. He has invested in his studies to maintain a high average and pursue university studies. Horeb has shared his culture with school staff and students while developing a passion for athletics. This passion has allowed him to excel in national competitions and to be admitted to the university of his choice. Since his arrival at École Rocher-du-Nord in St. John's, he has demonstrated unwavering determination and perseverance to achieve his goals

"The 2024 recipients are truly inspiring. They have taken on challenges with courage and determination, to take crucial steps and become adults ready to contribute to society. Thanks to the constant support of attentive school staff, they were able to achieve their learning goals," said Yves Laliberté, President of the RNDGE.

The Academic Perseverance Scholarships were created in 2019 to recognize the success of all learners, regardless of their academic results, and to encourage the pursuit of post-secondary studies in French.
