DELTA SCHOOL DISTRICT
‘Caps United School Program Scores in Delta

November 1, 2024

Recently, students at five schools across the Delta School District enjoyed free soccer skill development sessions, thanks to Vancouver Whitecaps FC 'Caps United School Program.

South Park, Ladner, McCloskey, Gibson and Hellings Elementary schools each hosted the Whitecaps FC community coaches for a day focused on physical literacy, getting active, teamwork and learning soccer specific skills. At each school, several classes were able to participate in the program over the course of the day.

"Prior to the session, not many of our younger students knew what soccer was as they hadn't had the opportunity to play it before," said Navine Bath, Vice Principal at Hellings Elementary. "It's incredible that they got their first taste of soccer from the Whitecaps FC. The students learnt about ball control, passing, dribbling and shooting, and had so much fun! Thanks Whitecaps FC!"

The soccer instruction, which took place either in the school's gym or sports field, was provided by Whitecaps FC community grassroots coaches.

"We're thrilled to bring the excitement of soccer to kids in Delta and beyond. Our goal with the Caps United School Program is to make sports and physical activity accessible for youth, regardless of experience or background. Watching students take part in these sessions, seeing their smiles and enthusiasm, tells us we are making a positive impact in our shared communities," said Jennifer Scott, Vice President of Community and Social Impact for Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
