Surrey Board of Education Trustees Gary Tymoschuk and Terry Allen were elected as chair and vice-chair, respectively, at the November public board meeting, for the period ending Nov. 30, 2025.
The Surrey Board of Education has elected a new chair and vice-chair for the coming year.
At the November public board meeting, former vice-chair Gary Tymoschuk was nominated and elected by fellow trustees to serve as chair, while trustee Terry Allen was nominated and elected to serve as vice-chair, for the period ending Nov. 30, 2025.
"First off, I would just like to thank very much my colleagues for putting your trust and confidence in me to take over the leadership over the next year," said Tymoschuk. "And I would like to take a moment to thank very much our outgoing chair, Laurie Larsen, who has been our chair for many years and provided excellent leadership and guidance, especially through the COVID years, which were challenging times.
"Thank you very much for all you've done and for me as vice-chair, being there to help me along the way as well."
Tymoschuk succeeds Larsen, who served as chair since 2017, while Allen returns to the role of vice-chair, which he previously held from 2017 to 2022.
The current Surrey Board of Education was sworn in in 2022 after being elected to serve the Surrey School District in B.C.'s 2022 General Local Elections.
The board oversees more than 83,000 students from kindergarten to Grade 12 who attend 131 schools throughout Surrey and White Rock, as well as nearly 13,000 employees.
Public board meetings are scheduled once a month at 7 p.m. at the District Education Centre (DEC), 14033 92nd Ave.
