The Kenora Catholic District School Board (KCDSB) announces the upcoming retirement of Director of Education and Secretary-Treasurer Nicole Kurtz, effective at the end of the 2024 - 2025 school year.
Appointed in September 2022, Nicole brought over 25 years of experience in Catholic education to her role as Director, leading KCDSB with a vision grounded in faith, compassion, and a commitment to student success and wellbeing.
Nicole's journey with KCDSB began long before her role as Director. As a St. Thomas Aquinas High School graduate, Nicole returned to serve her community and has held many key positions within the Board, including Superintendent of Instructional Services, Principal, Guidance Counsellor, and classroom teacher. Her experience spans all grade levels, from Kindergarten to Grade 12, offering her unique insights into student needs and curriculum development. Her portfolio has also encompassed Special Education, Equity and Inclusive Education, Mental Health and Wellbeing, and First Nation, Métis, and Inuit Education.
Reflecting on her time as Director, Nicole expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the board that nurtured her faith, family and career. "It has been an incredible blessing to serve in a system that shaped me both as a student and an educator. It has been a true blessing to lead and give back to a system that has shaped my life. I am immensely proud of what we've accomplished together and excited to see the continued growth and success of our students and schools."
Nicole, who became the Board's first graduate to serve as Director of Education, leaves behind a legacy of over two decades dedicated to student success, Catholic values, and community connections.
