A Grade 7 student from Christ the King Catholic Elementary School will be heading off to Washington D.C. this spring to take part in a national spelling contest after taking top honours in the WFCU Regional Final Spelling Bee held on Saturday.

Kavya Vasudeva won the contest held at the St. Clair Centre for the Arts and will now head to the 2025 Scripps National Spelling Bee set for May 27-29.
Kavya won the contest after correctly spelling her final word which was "googly," a specific term used to describe how a certain ball is thrown in cricket.
