On February 5, students at Glencairn Public School arrived at school bundled up in their warm winter clothes ready for the school's Winter Carnaval.
Students have been learning about French Canadian culture as part of the French language curriculum, including the tradition of Winter Carnaval. We know that in addition to strengthening students' ability to communicate, learning another language develops their awareness of how language and culture interconnect. This supports students in appreciating and respecting the diversity of Canadian and global societies.
Taking their learning further, the school hosted a Winter Carnaval event, with activities such as: sledding; snow painting; hockey; tug-of-war; musical chairs; snowman building; and face painting. After spending time outside, students enjoyed hot chocolate and snacks provided by the School Council.
The day ended with a fun surprise for everyone. Bonhomme himself showed up to join in the celebrations! What a great way to enjoy winter with the whole school community.
