During a board meeting on February 25, 2025, Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon proudly adopted the name of its new elementary school in Val Therese. After consulting students, families, school staff and the community, it was decided that the new school will be called École élémentaire catholique Notre-Place.
'In choosing this name, our school community honors its French-language and Francophone culture while providing an environment where students will live, learn and grow in faith » stated Ms. Suzanne Salituri, CSC Nouvelon Chair. 'This school is a dream finally coming to fruition for Francophone students and families of Val Therese, Hanmer and Capreol, as it will enable Francophone and Catholic values to shine and be passed down for generations to come.''
'The name Notre-Place evokes a sense of belonging, unity and community reflecting our Catholic values and Francophone identity'' added Mr. Tom Michaud, Director of Education at CSC Nouvelon. "The new school will benefit from the reputation for excellence of our French-language Catholic schools which have delivered remarkable work in Valley East for several years. Just like the song Notre Place by Paul Demers, École élémentaire catholique Notre-Place stands for young Francophone students coming together for a better future.''
The new École catholique Notre-Place is located on Municipal Road 80 in Val Therese and will welcome Kindergarten to grade 8 students from École Ste-Thérèse (Val Therese), École St-Joseph (Hanmer) and École Notre-Dame (Hanmer) during the next school year. The new building will also house a Francophone daycare comprised of 88 spots.
