On March 12, 2025, Trustees and Senior Leaders had the privilege of joining the ADSS Land-Based Learning (LBL) class at Loon Lake to observe and engage in an immersive outdoor learning experience. This visit provided a firsthand look at how students are developing critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration skills through Environmental Science, Active Living, Foods Studies, Math, and Language Arts, all within a dynamic outdoor setting.

The Loon Lake overnight experience is part of a progressively challenging series of outdoor learning opportunities designed to strengthen students' understanding of core subjects while building confidence in real-world outdoor education. Students worked together to navigate environmental challenges, prepare meals, and engage in thoughtful discussions, all while demonstrating resilience and teamwork.
Highlights of the visit included:
- A powerful territory welcome and sharing circle that brought Indigenous perspectives into the learning experience.
- Hands-on interactions with students as they completed camp setup and prepared a traditional meal, featuring kutchuus BBQ salmon, fire-baked potato soup, bannock, and warm beverages.
- A lesson on Environmental Science and Forestry led by ADSS LBL teacher Sarah Williams and industry guests, showcasing real-world applications of scientific concepts.
We want to extend our sincere gratitude to the students and staff of the ADSS Land-Based Learning program for inviting us to experience their learning firsthand. The dedication of educators like Dave Maher, Sarah Williams, Erin OHagan along with the engagement and enthusiasm of students, is truly inspiring.
Thank you for sharing your learning journey with us!
