NEW BRUNSWICK
The Link Program celebrates 25 years

May 8, 2025

The Link Program - offering mental health resources for youth in grades 6 through 12 - is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.

"The Link Program plays an important role in ensuring the safety and security of students," said Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Claire Johnson. "Life can be challenging, especially for youth who must face these challenges during a transitory and, at times, confusing part of their lives. It is important they have access to help when they need it most. We are grateful for the Link Program, which connects youth to relevant supports in their community."

The program was established in Grand Falls in 1999 after three students took their own lives. It offers support through a designated person, referred to as a link companion, who helps young people who are facing significant challenges and looking to connect with service providers. The link companion helps find the appropriate resource in the young person's region.

The program operates based on the principle that engaging with young people and fostering connections is essential for their social and emotional well-being, as well as their mental health.

More information about the Link Program is available online.
