District School Board Ontario North East (DSB1) is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our students at the recent Skills Ontario Competition held in Toronto, where teams from Englehart High School (EHS) and Kirkland Lake District Composite School (KLDCS) demonstrated exceptional talent, collaboration, and innovation.
The KLDCS Robotics team comprised of Liam McBean, Iurii Kovalev, Christopher Mallette, and Mason Smith delivered a flawless performance, going undefeated throughout the competition and earning the gold medal in their category. Their dedication and skill have earned them national recognition, and two members of the winning team will be travelling to Regina later this month to compete at the Skills Canada National Competition.
Kate Parker and Reese Blackburn, EHS students, earned the silver medal in the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) category, showcasing impressive technical and analytical expertise in mapping, data visualization, and geospatial problem-solving.
"We are incredibly proud of all our students who participated in the Skills Ontario Competition," said Lesleigh Dye, Director of Education. "Their accomplishments reflect the strength of our programs and the passion of our educators in preparing students for success in skilled trades and technology pathways."
The Skills Ontario Competitions bring together students from across the province to compete in hands-on challenges that reflect real-world careers.
DSB1 extends heartfelt congratulations to all participating students and wishes our national competitors the best of luck as they represent our region on the national stage.
