Students at St. Patrick Catholic School and St. James Catholic School participated in acts of reciprocity.
At St. Patrick Catholic School, Mme Miller, Mme Shimko and Mme Anderson's classes participated in an act of reciprocity to Ben Marshall for his land walk. Ben Marshall, a DCDSB Indigenous Graduation Coach, guided students along the land near their school to teach them about the local ecosystem, environment, and relationships with the land. Students shared the actions they will take to be reciprocal and in relationship with the land through a visual tree that they created as a class. They also included a reflection of their learning through the last few months as well as from their afternoon spent with Ben.
At St. James Catholic School, French Immersion students in Mme Lafontaine-Lisi, Mme D'Lima, Mme Korkmaz and M. Longo's classes were empowered to contribute back to nature by learning about native species of plants, such as milkweed, goldenrods, and asters with natural clay. Students were inspired by reading "Ours Écoute" by Robert Cutting, "Tout le monde joue" by Julie Flett and "Be a Good Ancestor" by Leona et Gabrielle Prince.
