FORT MCMURRAY PUBLIC SCHOOLS
FMPSD Hosts 14th Annual LEGO Robotics Tournament

June 5, 2025

The Fort McMurray Public School Division (FMPSD) recently celebrated the resounding success of its 14th Annual LEGO Robotics Tournament. The event brought together over 300 talented and enthusiastic students from FMPSD elementary and junior high schools, forming 44 teams that showcased their creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

The tournament, which has become a hallmark event in the FMPSD calendar, was marked by excitement and innovation. Students programmed their LEGO robots to complete 15 unique challenges, all within an intense 2-minute and 30-second timeframe. These challenges pushed teams to think critically, communicate effectively, and execute plans under pressure, mirroring real-world problem-solving scenarios.

"This tournament truly exemplifies FMPSD's commitment to fostering innovation, leadership, and teamwork among our students," said Director of Technology Ali Syed. "Each team's creativity and dedication to overcoming challenges serve as a testament to the incredible talent and determination within our schools. We are thrilled to see such passion for technology and problem-solving in our students."

FMPSD sees the event as more than just a tournament; it is a stepping stone to cultivating future leaders and innovators who will make meaningful contributions to their communities and beyond. "Seeing our students grow in their collaborative and technical abilities year after year is a remarkable privilege," added Mr. Syed.

The 14th Annual LEGO Robotics Tournament would not have been possible without the unwavering support of parents, teachers, and community volunteers who contributed to the day's smooth operation and success. FMPSD remains committed to providing programming that enriches student education and strengthens essential 21st-century skills for years to come.

As the applause dies down from this year's tournament, FMPSD is already looking forward to next year's edition, with the hope of inspiring even more students to engage in STEM-focused activities.
