A group of students from Erin District High School ran a fundraising campaign to raise money for Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis this spring.
The initiative was developed and led by Grade 11 student Julia Gajewski. With the help of some friends, they raised $500 for the organization by selling carnations and with the support of a pizza fundraiser by the athletic department.
"I believe that it is our job on this Earth to support, protect and empower those that are vulnerable and in need. As a woman myself, it only felt right to give back to a community that has already given so much to help vulnerable women and girls," Gajewski said.
Founded in 1977 by eight women at UofG, Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis provides "safety, advocacy, prevention, education, and support for women and gender-diverse people impacted by violence." To learn more about the organization, visit gwwomenincrisis.org.
