FMPSD Announces New Principals for the 2025–2026 School Year

The Fort McMurray Public School Division (FMPSD) is thrilled to announce the appointments of three outstanding leaders to principal positions for the 2025-2026 academic year. Each of these individuals brings unique skills, experiences, and exemplary leadership to their respective schools, enhancing education across our community.

David Hurley - New Principal of Greely Road School

With a rich background in education and a proven track record of leadership, Mr. David Hurley will be stepping into the role of Principal at Greely Road School.

Mr. Hurley holds a Bachelor of Physical Education and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta, a Master's in Educational Leadership from Brandon University, and is currently a Doctoral Candidate at Western University, with plans to convocate this fall. Since joining FMPSD in 2014, Mr. Hurley has made significant contributions, including his foundational role in opening Walter and Gladys Hill Public School as a Physical Education teacher and APPLE Schools Health Facilitator. He also held positions as the Educational Technology Coordinator and Vice Principal at both Fort McMurray Islamic School and École McTavish, where he served as PEAK Director.

Mr. Hurley expressed his enthusiasm for his new role, stating, "I am honoured to return to Greely Road School as Principal. Having worked closely with this school community before, I know how special it is, and I'm excited to build on its culture of excellence and collaboration."

Mr. Hurley is passionate about creating a supportive and innovative learning environment that empowers every student and staff member at Greely Road.

Debbie Peddle - New Principal of Walter and Gladys Hill Public School

After two successful years at Christina Gordon Public School, Ms. Debbie Peddle will bring her decades of expertise to Walter and Gladys Hill Public School as its new principal.

Ms. Peddle's career spans over 35 years in education, including 20 years as a principal. Her leadership is known for being student-centred, collaborative, and focused on fostering both academic and personal growth. Dedicated to continuing the school's legacy, Ms. Peddle shared her vision for this new chapter, stating, "I am incredibly excited to join the Walter and Gladys Hill Public School community. My goal is to build on the existing strong foundation, collaborating with staff, students, and families to nurture a culture of innovation, excellence, and inclusivity."

Her extensive experience, paired with her passion for education, ensures Walter and Gladys Hill Public School will continue to thrive under her leadership.

Abbi Easton - New Principal of Beacon Hill Public School

FMPSD is proud to welcome Ms. Abbi Easton as the new Principal of Beacon Hill Public School.

A Fort McMurray native, Ms. Easton is returning to her roots to lead with purpose and passion. She holds a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta, as well as a Master's in Education from Thompson Rivers University.

She started her career in Fort McMurray and Edmonton, later joining FMPSD in 2018 as the Coordinator of Secondary Numeracy and Inclusive Technology. Since then, she has excelled as the Supervisor of Educational Technology and Vice Principal, notably at E-Cademy+ during COVID-19 and at Dr. K.A. Clark School.

Ms. Easton's dedication to educational excellence has been recognized nationally with the prestigious Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellence. Speaking about her new role, she said, "I am incredibly excited to work alongside the students, staff, and families at Beacon Hill Public School. Together, we will continue to foster an environment where every child is supported to grow and succeed to their fullest potential."
