CONSEIL SCOLAIRE CATHOLIQUE NOUVELON
CSC Nouvelon ranks third in Ontario for energy efficiency

June 20, 2025

For a second consecutive year, Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon ranks third in the province for energy efficiency in Sustainable Schools' 2025 Top Energy Performing School Board Report. This report analyzes data from the 2022-2023 school year and ranks Ontario's 72 school boards based on their ability to reduce energy consumption. This recognition reflects CSC Nouvelon's efforts to improve the energy performance of its facilities, aiming for a minimal gap between current consumption and ideal standards.

As a result of the initiatives undertaken since 1990, CSC Nouvelon is recognized for its enduring commitment to energy efficiency. This achievement relies on the collaboration of janitorial and maintenance staff members who oversee the efficient operation of facilities and support the gradual implementation of innovative solutions. Among the concrete measures are the systematic integration of green technologies in new constructions and renovations, as well as the implementation of computerized control systems. Furthermore, CSC Nouvelon favors the use of high energy-performance windows and roofs, the installation of water-efficient toilets, as well as lighting systems that consume less energy.

The Board continuously carries out various renovation projects, including one aimed at improving the insulation of school exterior walls to further reduce energy consumption. Six schools are also equipped with photovoltaic systems which enable them to produce their own electricity. These six systems generate approximately 380,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) annually. CSC Nouvelon is actively committed to continuing its efforts and remain a leader in reducing energy consumption. The Energy Conservation and Demand Management Plan for the period of 2023 to 2028 is available on the Board's website.

"CSC Nouvelon is thrilled to be recognized once again as an energy-efficient leader and for the tangible impact of its sustainable development actions. We place great importance on reducing our carbon footprint and managing our schools responsibly," states CSC Nouvelon's Director of Education, Mr. Tom Michaud. "Ongoing efforts are also made to equip our students so they can become responsible, confident, informed and engaged eco-citizens."
