The dedicated staff of Lyn Public School were among the 31 honourees recognized at the 2025 Asset Builder Awards, held Sunday, June 22 at the YMCA of Eastern Ontario in Brockville. Hosted by the Every Kid in our Communities (EKIOC) Coalition of Leeds and Grenville, the annual celebration honours individuals, organizations, and businesses that make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and youth in the community.
The staff of Lyn PS were nominated for this award by the school's parent council, who praised the team's ongoing commitment to nurturing both the academic and personal development of every student.
"This team of educators exemplifies what it means to build developmental assets in young people," wrote the parent council in their nomination. "They consistently go above and beyond to recognize and celebrate the interests, strengths, and individuality of every learner both inside and outside of classroom hours."
From supporting student entrepreneurs to encouraging budding athletes and artists, the staff at Lyn PS have created a school culture grounded in inclusivity, positivity, and care. A recent school-wide survey showed that 100 per cent of students had participated in at least one extracurricular activity highlighting the supportive environment that staff have worked hard to build.
The parent council also noted the strong relationships between students and staff, with educators taking the time to truly get to know their students, mentor them through challenges, and create safe spaces where they feel heard and empowered.
The EKIOC Asset Builder Awards are based on a public nomination process and recognize those who support the development of key assets in young people ranging from external supports like caring school climates and safe spaces, to internal strengths like positive identity and social-emotional skills.
