Travis Corbiere has been appointed as System Principal of Indigenous Education. A member of the M'Chigeeng First Nation, Travis Corbiere has an Honours Bachelor of Indigenous Social Work from Laurentian University and a Bachelor of Education from Queen's University. Principal Corbiere has close to two decades of experience in First Nations education, and, for many years, has been a dedicated member of the M'Chigeeng First Nation Education Department. Travis Corbiere has assumed various roles with Rainbow District School Board including teaching, guidance and PLAR, and has served as the Vice-Principal of Indigenous Education at Manitoulin Secondary School. Principal Corbiere is committed to cultivating relationships with Indigenous communities, enhancing student achievement and well-being, and creating meaningful learning experiences centered on truth and reconciliation.
Susan Kett has been appointed Principal of Barrydowne College. Susan Kett joined Rainbow District School Board in 1999 as a music teacher and International Baccalaureate Co-ordinator at her former high school, Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School. Her senior leadership experience began as Vice-Principal of Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School, then Lockerby Composite School, Walden Public School and Espanola High School. Principal Kett has served on many Board committees, including the Environmental Education Committee, and is an EcoSchools Canada representative for the Board. In 2018, Susan Kett was promoted to Principal of Barrydowne College where she remained for five years before being appointed Principal of Lively District Secondary School. Principal Kett is excited to rejoin the Barrydowne College community.
Laurie-Ann Lielkalns is the new Principal of Safe Schools, Restart, O'Connor Park, Continuing Education and PLAR. Laurie-Ann Lielkalns has taught various subjects and grades at Lansdowne Public School and Chelmsford Valley District Composite School. She was also a Program Leader of Special Education and Student Success teacher. After six years as a Special Education Co-ordinator, she was promoted to Vice-Principal of Lasalle Secondary School. Laurie-Ann Lielkalns has participated in many committees and leadership initiatives and led school-based collaborative inquiries in literacy and mathematics. Laurie-Ann Lielkalns was Vice-Principal of Special Education Programs and Services prior to her appointment as Principal of Barrydowne College in 2023. Principal Lielkalns looks forward to her new role as a system-wide administrator.
Tim Nadjiwon has been appointed as System Principal of Indigenous Education. From the Batchewana First Nation, Tim Nadjiwon has a Bachelor of Physical and Health Education from Laurentian University and a Bachelor of Education from Nipissing University. He began his career in 2008 and has taught at a number of secondary schools. He also served as program leader and teacher at Mishko-Ode-Wendam located at the Shkagamik-Kwe Health Centre. Prior to his most recent position as Vice-Principal of Confederation Secondary School, Tim Nadjiwon was a Vice-Principal at Lasalle Secondary School. He also served as system-wide Vice-Principal of Indigenous Education. In his new role, Principal Nadjiwon will continue to connect with Indigenous communities, improve student success, and build capacity for truth and reconciliation.
Yves Poirier has been appointed Principal of Confederation Secondary School. Yves Poirier obtained a Bachelor of Physical Health and Education as well as a Bachelor of Education from Laurentian University, and a Master of Education from Nipissing University. He joined Rainbow District School Board in 2005 as a physical education teacher and program leader at Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School. Over the last decade, he served as a Vice-Principal at various secondary schools including Lasalle Secondary School, Espanola High School, and Sudbury Secondary School, and was the Principal of the Summer Learning Program at Barrydowne College. Yves Poirier was recently named Vice-President of OFSAA. Principal Poirier is thrilled to join the Charger family and looks forward to working with the Confederation Secondary School community.
Victoria Zymantas has been appointed Principal of Lively District Secondary School. Victoria Zymantas obtained a Bachelor of Commerce from Laurentian University and a Bachelor of Education from Nipissing University. She began her career as an educator in 2005. She has taught a number of subjects at the secondary level and has also served as a student success teacher. Victoria Zymantas was promoted to Vice-Principal of Confederation Secondary School in 2018, and, for the last five years, has been Vice-Principal of Lasalle Secondary School. Victoria Zymantas looks forward to working with the Lively community in her new role as Principal.
