On September 1st, the Peel Learning Foundation will launch its 2025 Hopeful Tomorrows Campaign to raise funds for Peel District School Board students who are struggling to meet their most basic needs.
Now in its third year, the Hopeful Tomorrows Campaign has already raised more than $520,000 for the Student Emergency Needs Program, which helps students access essentials like nutritious food, hygiene products, transit fare and other necessities.
In Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga, more than 25,000 students are living in poverty. These students often come to school hungry, without proper clothing, or lacking school supplies, and many face housing insecurity.
"A student's potential should never be limited by what's missing in their backpack or fridge" says Darren Roopnarain, Co-chair of the Hopeful Tomorrows Campaign. "These every day struggles can impact their ability to fully focus and participate in the classroom."
As the charity of choice for Peel District School Board, both the school board and the Foundation are excited to work together with staff, schools, unions, and associations to meet or exceed this year's Hopeful Tomorrows Campaign target of $300,000, which will provide direct support to 2,000 students.
"Designating Peel Learning Foundation as our charity of choice underscores our commitment to removing barriers to achievement and investing in the long-term success of every student. Throughout the years, we have seen how their programs create real, measurable change in the lives of our students and their families. Through this fundraising campaign, our hope is to extend that impact even further," says Rashmi Swarup, Director of Education, Peel District School Board.
Community members, local businesses and individuals are invited to donate or learn more about the campaign at www.peellearningfoundation.org.
With your support, we can give every student a more hopeful tomorrow.
