While students and staff across Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) are getting ready to cross the finish line for their 2025 Terry Fox School Runs, a few EIPS schools had the opportunity to run early with a very special guest: Fred Fox, Terry Fox's older brother.

Fultonvale Elementary Junior High, along with James Mowat Elementary, Lakeland Ridge and Pine Street Elementary, welcomed Fred Fox as he spoke to students and staff. Fox, who is touring the world to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the Marathon of Hope, talked about Terry's legacy, determination and dedication to his dream of raising money for cancer research before joining them on their runs.
"Mr. Fox told us Terry never gave up, he kept on trying," says Freya Jordan, a Grade 3 Student at Fultonvale Elementary Junior High. "And he usually reached his goals because he always kept trying!"
"We are so excited Fred Fox visited our schools. His words and actions help give students the motivation to chase their own dreams," says Cathy Allen, the Board Chair of EIPS. "Terry's bravery and perseverance continue to inspire every student, employee and community member to work together for a better future."
This week, EIPS is joining more than 10,000 schools across the country to participate in the Terry Fox School Run. Founded in 1981, the run has evolved into one of the largest fundraising events in Canada. To date, the foundation has raised more than $950 million and funded 1,300 projects to honour Fox's dream with EIPS making a notable contribution. Last year alone, EIPS schools raised nearly $64,000 for the foundation. And, since 1992, the Division has raised more than $900,000.
In Fred Fox's final lesson to students, he recounted a message his mother would tell schools around the country as she carried Terry's legacy on: "Just like Terry, set goals, always work hard and never, ever give up on your dreams." Each step, each donation and each act of support help carry Terry's message forward honouring his legacy while challenging us all to live out his dream in our own lives.
EIPS congratulates all staff, students, volunteers and community members supporting this year's Terry Fox School Run.
