Pembina Hills, together with Careers Next Generation, was excited to once again offer a Career Camp this summer for students from across the division who were entering Grade 10 this fall.
The five-day camp, held July 7-11, 2025, at R.F. Staples Secondary School in Westlock, gave students the opportunity to explore careers in healthcare, welding, heavy equipment operation, construction trades and agriculture. Participants earned three credits for CALM 20 while completing coursework, engaging in hands-on learning, hearing from industry experts, and taking part in daily site visits.
"This camp would not be possible without the involvement of the businesses and organizations in our communities. Everyone was so giving of their time and expertise to inspire students to explore the diverse opportunities available to them." ~ PHSD Deputy Superintendent of Education Services Raime Drake.
Students particularly enjoyed the variety of experiences, from trying out welding equipment to operating heavy machinery, and learning directly from tradespeople and professionals in the field. Each day brought a new opportunity to connect classroom learning with real-world applications.
By the end of the week, students walked away not only with credits but also with valuable experience and a deeper understanding of the career options available to them. For many, the camp was an inspiring first step toward future education and employment goals.
A huge thank you to the businesses and organizations involved in making this camp happen. We are looking forward to offering the camp again in July 2026!
