Spencer Avenue Elementary School Teacher-Librarian Sandra McLarnon has won a Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellence.
McLarnon has been at Spencer Avenue Elementary School since its opening in 2014. She's credited with building a Makerspace that's considered the "heart of the school" and has been a big presence in subjects related to science and the environment.

"As an educator who consistently goes above and beyond to inspire both students and colleagues, Sanda McLarnon is a shining example of what it means to lead, innovate, and mentor in the field of STEM education," Spencer Avenue Elementary School Principal, Vincent Allen, was quoted as saying on the awards page.
"I'm honoured to accept the award on behalf of all our co-creators at the UGDSB, Engineers of Tomorrow, parent community and especially our students who have rocked out learning in the Makerspace beyond my wildest imagination," McLarnon says.
The Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellence "recognizes elementary and secondary school teachers in all disciplines for their remarkable achievements in education and their commitment to preparing youth for a digital and innovation-based economy."
