The LDCSB has received additional funding for a new elementary school and childcare centre in northeast London. Located on Stackhouse Drive, the new $23 million school will have a capacity for 401 students as well as a five-room childcare centre. It is anticipated that the project will go to tender later this Fall and be ready for students in 2027.
"We are thrilled to be able to soon start building another much-needed LDCSB school," said Vince Romeo, Director of Education. "Our elementary schools in north London are bursting with students, so this new school will relieve some pressure on our existing schools in the area. We are thankful for the Ministry of Education's support during this time of unprecedented growth in the LDCSB."
The LDCSB, the fastest-growing school board in Ontario, recently submitted business cases to the Ministry of Education for four additional new schools in the region, listed below in order of priority:
- New Southwest London Secondary School (2,000 students)
- New Southeast London Elementary School (655 students and 88-space childcare centre)
- New St. Thomas Elementary School (424 students and 88-space childcare centre)
- Replacement St. Patrick, Lucan Elementary School (424 students)
The Ministry of Education's Capital Priorities program provides school boards across the province with an opportunity to identify their most urgent and pressing pupil accommodation needs. The Ministry has limited funds available to allocate to school boards, so not all capital priorities will receive funding approval.
Kilworth Elementary Under Construction
The LDCSB's newest elementary school and childcare centre is under construction in Middlesex Centre. Located in Kilworth, on Crestview Drive, the new $20.7 million school will have a capacity for 424 students as well as a five-room childcare centre. It is anticipated that the school will be ready for students in 2027.
Regina Mundi College Construction Continues
The replacement Regina Mundi College (RMC) secondary school is on track to open in the Fall of 2026. The $51.6 million replacement building is located on the current property, and will have a capacity for approximately 700 students. RMC was established in 1963 as a junior seminary, was converted to a boarding school, and then transitioned to a traditional secondary school in the 1980s.
